Course Details

Join our experimental Yiddish course featuring Itzik Manger's "Megile Lider". Our innovative format will include elements of leyenkrayz and shmues, and special guests, including Mike Burstyn, Yelena Shmulenson, Avi Hoffman, Eleanor Reissa, and Uri Schreter! We will meet twice a week for 4 weeks and integrate intermediate and advanced students.

Cost: $15 for each class or $100 for an 8-session package for early bird registration (available until April 2) or $18 for each class or $150 for the 8-session package if registering after April 2.

Instrutor: Sasha Hoffman

Sasha received a PhD in Comparative Literature at the University of Michigan in 2012, with a dissertation focused on humorous representations of oppression within the writing of four classical Yiddish and Harlem Renaissance writers: Langston Hughes, Zora Neal Hurston, Sholem Aleykhem, and Modkhe Spector. Among other things, Sasha is a student and a teacher of Yiddish language and culture, with a particular interest in leftist and women’s writing.
